Bodegas Montecastro wine tasting

Thursday, June 26th, 2014, Juerui Industry has organized Bodegas Montecastro wine tasting event in its retail wine store Xibarita. Guillermo Planas, Export Manager of Montecastro hosted this tasting event during his visit in China.
 
For this time, we shared with our guests two wines from D.O. Ribera del Duero, Spain, which are produced by Montecastro: Montecastro 2007 and Alconte 2010. In order to show the full characters of both wines, Juerui Industry has prepared a whole ham as the special fine food to match with. This is one of the best Iberian acorn hams in Spain which quality is as excellent as the wines. Mr. Guillermo started the event with a presentation of Montecastro winery, and the beautiful vineyard pictures he showed were so attractive, as like we all have been lead to a real journey of winery visiting. “The scenery of plain is stunning, and the yield is great, but the real ideal area for producing good quality grape is above the mountain, which is Montecastro vineyard located”, Mr. Guillermo explained. He also showed the guests how the concrete fermentation tanks work, a traditional method that has been used for more than a century to help clarifying the grape juice, without losing its genuine flavor. For the guests, this increased their curious for the wines.


During the tasting, Mr. Guillermo selected Alconte 2010 as the starter. This is a wine easy to drink, and as a second wine of Montecastro winery, its quality is also good, and many guests commented that it is impressive. The follow wine was Montecastro 2010, a good vintage with bright future. It has very expressive aromas of red and black ripped fruits, full bodied and fresh taste with a big quality structure and tannins. More characters released after matched with olive oil dressed ham. It showed very subtle difference for each bite. As Mr. Guillermo added: “Alconte is approachable, you can drink it in any occasion at any time, while Montecastro is ideal for dinner as its complexity and elegance need you to appreciate slowly.”


Winery info: The main aim of Bodegas y Viñedos Montecastro, S.A. is to envelope a medium size winery, between 250.000 and 300.000 bottles maximum, that manufactures a high quality wine, a wine placed as one of the fifteen best wines of Ribera del Duero. Trying to make the wines as a synthesis of the flavors and tastes in the Ribera del Duero, using grapes from Montecastro’s own vineyards and settling purchasing agreements with vine growers. The manufacturing process of Montecastro’s wine requires aging the wine in barrels for a long time that varies between 16 and 18 months depending on the vintage characteristics, and at least 6 months bottled. Bodegas y Viñedos Montecastro has achieved 94 points in Parker scale.
